What this free ADHD test measures

This page uses the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS v1.1), a widely-used screening questionnaire developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Harvard Medical School. It is designed to help you identify whether you are showing common ADHD symptom patterns over the past 6 months.

Important: this is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. A clinician typically looks at symptoms, onset, impairment, context, and alternative explanations (sleep, anxiety, depression, stress, substance use) before making a diagnosis.

ASRS Part A (6 items)

Part A is the short screener subset. A positive Part A suggests ADHD-like symptoms that are worth discussing with a professional.

ASRS Part B (12 items)

Part B adds detail across common ADHD symptom areas. It can help you build a clearer profile, but it does not replace clinical evaluation.

Frequently asked questions

Is this ADHD test a diagnosis?

No. This is a screening tool. It can indicate whether your symptoms look consistent with ADHD, but only a licensed clinician can diagnose ADHD.

Can anxiety, depression, or sleep problems change the result?

Yes. Anxiety, depression, chronic stress, burnout, substance use, and sleep deprivation can mimic or worsen attention and executive function symptoms. Context matters.

Which time period should I answer for?

Use your experiences over the past 6 months, as instructed by ASRS v1.1. If a situation is unusually stressful (new job, major life event), keep that context in mind when interpreting results.

What should I do after a positive screen?

Consider saving your results, writing a few concrete examples of how symptoms affect school/work/home, and reviewing diagnostic criteria with a professional. You can also explore our diagnosis criteria guide.
